09 members of the Indian Navy Everest expedition summited the worlds highest peak on May 17, thereby marking another glorious chapter in the history of the Indian Navy. Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, Lieutenant Anant Kukreti, Lieutenant Commander Bikas Maharana and Lieutenant Commander CS Yadav from Team A planted the Naval Ensign on Mt Everest on 21 May 17 at 0715 hrs. Five members from Team B successfully summited Mt Everest, 8848 m at 0730 hrs on 27 May 17. The summit team comprised of Lt Cdr Hari Prasath, Hari Om Petty Officer, Sandeep Singh LPT, Ashish Gupta LA AH and Avinash Bhawane MA I. It was on March 23, 2017 that Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba had flagged off this 24-member expedition team to Mount Everest, themed ‘Sagartal Se Sagarmatha’, meaning from seabed to summit. First, the Naval Ensign was taken to the bottom of the sea by diving off the coast of Karwar and now it was placed on the highest point on Earth, thus signifying the Navy’s efforts to soar from the depths of the ocean to the highest peak of the world. The team faced continuous bad weather and heavy winds, however, none of that could deter them from summiting the worlds highest peak.
